Amal Womens Association: Community Development Officer


Amal is seeking an experienced community worker to help our team and
organization to bring about social change and improve the quality of
life in their local area. The main purpose of the role is to implement
and evaluate community development projects and activities that
address the needs and interests of the women from different ethnic,
cultural and religious backgrounds who face barriers to accessing
public services in Ireland.

We are a charity that works with women from different ethnic, cultural
backgrounds who face difficulties and barriers in accessing public
services in Ireland. We provide information, advice, advocacy and
support to help them overcome these challenges and achieve their
goals. We also promote intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and
human rights through our community development programmes and
campaigns.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a community development officer you are passionate and experienced,
join our team and work with the women to empower and support them. You
will be responsible for developing and delivering projects and
activities that improve their quality of life and address the issues
that affect them collectively. You will also act as a link between the
women and other local stakeholders, such as the gardaí, social
workers, and health professionals to ensure that our services are
relevant, effective and responsive to the needs and interests of the
women and the community we serve. You will also engage with the wider
community and stakeholders to raise awareness of our work and
influence the policy and practice on issues affecting our target
group.

CONTRACT TYPE: Part Time 1-Year Fixed Term Contract-subject to renewal
on performance
SALARY: * p.a
WORKING HOURS: * hours (flexible) but may
include occasionally working on evenings or weekends
LOCATION: Dublin 8 city center

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Work with migrant Muslim women groups to identify their needs,
assets, rights, and opportunities
* Design and implement community-based initiatives that address the
issues affecting the women, such as isolation, discrimination, health,
education, and employment
* Organise workshops, training sessions, and events that enhance the
women’s skills, confidence, and well-being
* Build and maintain relationships with other relevant organisations
and agencies, and advocate for the women’s interests and rights
* Establish and maintain effective relationships with our partners,
funders and other organizations and agencies that can provide
complementary or additional support to our service users.
* Represent our organisation at local, regional and national forums
and events and advocate for the rights and interests of our target
group.
* Manage project budgets, resources, and evaluation and prepare and
submit reports, funding applications, evaluations and other documents
as required by our management team, funders and regulators.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

* A relevant qualification or equivalent experience in community
development, social sciences or a related field.
* At least two years of experience in community development work,
preferably with women from diverse backgrounds.
* Fluency in one or more languages other than English (Arabic, Urdu,
Hindi,etc.) that are spoken by our service users.
* Knowledge of the issues affecting women from different ethnic,
cultural and religious backgrounds in Ireland, such as discrimination,
racism, immigration, health, education and employment.
* Knowledge of the principles and practices of community
development, such as participation, empowerment, partnership, equality
and diversity.
* Knowledge of the legal and ethical frameworks governing community
development work in Ireland, such as the Charities Act **Apply on the

Protection Regulation (GDPR).
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to work flexibly and creatively in a challenging
environment.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and online platforms.

DESIRABLE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience in working with women from migrant or refugee
backgrounds, with funders and donors in the nonprofit sector.
* Experience in conducting research or evaluation on community
development issues or projects.
* Fluency in one or more languages other than English that are
spoken by our service users.
